Between Kåseberga and Sandhammaren, just east of Ystad on the Swedish south coast is a meditation ring. It is situated in a cow pasture with beautiful views of the ocean, in the Backåkra Nature preserve.
Here you can meditate, walk around, enjoy the view of the ocean and the surrounding fields, eat your picnic. The meditation ring was built in memory of Dag Hammarskjöld.
It was Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, who in 1957 bought the beautifully situated farm house from the 1840s. Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to live here himself as he died in a plane accident in Africa in 1961.
The farm house was recently renovated and you can now visit the museum (admission).
The nature preserve and the meditation ring are open to the public free of charge year round. A short walk through the preserve leads you to the sandy beaches, through a small forest.
