Ancient Ripple Marks in Sandstone
Last week we wrote about the nature reserve Bäckhalladalen with nice trails just north of Simrishamn. If you want to venture outside of the trails you can look for old current ripple marks. They were formed about 550 million years ago when this area was ocean floor.

Next to the old quarry Tobisborg, in the eastern part of the nature reserve, you find the ripple marks on the photo above. Sandstone dating back to the Cambrian Period was quarried here.
If you follow the trail west ward you will soon come to a small creek. Leave the trail and carefully cross the creek. Look for a step on top of the hill...

Climb the steps and into the pasture. You will find this huge ripple mark!
