Old Lagoon by Ystad
During the Stone Age this area was a bay, when the water level was 3-4 meters higher than today. It later turned into a lagoon, sheltered by a shoal of sand, and appears to have been used for fishing and hunting based on archaeological finds. The lagoon was gradually covered by vegetation and turned into a bog - it provided fuel and animal feed. Today the land is used as grazing areas. The cows are happily eating the grass, with the town of Ystad in the background. The area is also habitat for many birds.
The road is narrow and it is not easy to turn around or park a car...if you drive on the Karlshemsvägen, continue past Åbergs Trädgård and after approximately 400 meter, turn right in the four way crossing. Just after a collection of birch trees it was possible to park the car.
Park the car and enjoy the area by foot! What does it feel like to walk on the bottom of an old lagoon?
